TORYCORE is a show like no other. A fiercely political convergence of death metal and theatre, it’s about vocalising a response to Conservative Party policies through music, speeches, powerpoint and rage. It’s a guttural, expressive experience made up of Tory doctrine, political contexts and the impact of austerity over the past five years, told through “‘songs’ that fluctuate between being tensely funny and angrily barbaric, skewering the ridiculousness of Tory rhetoric” (Dan Hutton). First performed in a suburban living room in 2012 as part of Forest Fringe’s Paper Stages launch (http://www.forestfringe.co.uk/2012/08/summertime-and-beyond/), the Torycore trio, Lucy Ellinson, Chris Thorpe and Steve Lawson, went on to win the Arches Brick Award in the same year. Since then, they’ve brought this intensely provocative experience to Mayfest, Latitude, Pulse Festival, Camden Peoples Theatre and The Gate. With the next general election ahead of us, TORYCORE’s themes are more pertinent than ever, and we’re taking the show on the road in the lead up to May. There are only a handful of slots available for one-off performances during early spring, 2015. We will be visiting theatres, social clubs, community centres, and any other spaces where the message will ring true. Please do get in touch if you are interested.
